Søren Hough wins Glover Research Award
Congratulations to PhD student Søren Hough, sole recipient of the Glover Research Award 2023. This award is given to a recent PhD graduate in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge, selected on the strength of their research proposal. The Glover Fund was set up by the Glover family, who attended Clare College, in memory of their late father John, formerly Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Liverpool. The award allows a final year PhD student to continue working in the Department to write up papers on research from their PhD, finalise projects, bridge a gap between PhD and postdoc, or prepare additional research proposals.
This award will allow Søren to complete his research on the specific role of MAEA, part of the CTLH complex, in the repair of DNA damage caused by certain chemotherapeutic drugs. He is further characterising a novel neurodevelopmental disorder putatively linked to MAEA. This funding will allow him to write-up this work for publication alongside pursuing his aim to continue his career as a postdoctoral researcher in a DNA repair laboratory.
On receiving this award Søren said “It is a deeply validating honour to receive this award from the Glover Fund. I am grateful to the assessors and the Glover family, and I look forward to putting these resources toward leading our team to publication.”
