GRC "Fundamental Mechanisms of Genomic Change and Adaptation", ME, USA

  • Jordan Hotel at Sunday River 27 Grand Circle Newry, ME, 04261 United States (map)

The 2022 Gordon Research Conference on Mutagenesis will explore the fundamental mechanisms by which DNA sequences are altered in all organisms and the consequences of mutagenesis for cellular fitness in a wide range of biological scenarios, from the challenge of antibiotic resistance to the evolution of cancer. Thus, a key feature of the conference will be the bringing together of scientists studying a wide range of questions in the broad field of mutagenesis and who are employing diverse range of cutting-edge approaches, from genome wide analysis to single molecule techniques.

The integrity of the DNA sequence of all organisms is continuously challenged by endogenous and exogenous mutagens, for instance metabolites and UV irradiation, but also by the DNA sequence itself when it adopts non-canonical secondary structures and by the essential biochemical transactions that place on DNA, notably replication and transcription. All these factors can lead to mutations ranging from single base substitutions through to complex genome rearrangements. A key challenge that will be addressed by the meeting is to understand how cellular events are linked to distinct patterns of sequence change and how patterns of sequence change can be mechanistically interpreted. In addition, the meeting will also explore the physiological and pathological consequences of mutagenesis, many of which are of fundamental importance in human health, including antibiotic resistance, adaptive and innate immunity, neurodegenerative disease and cancer.

The conference will comprise pre-arranged talks by established and emerging leaders in the field, talks selected from the submitted abstracts and extensive poster sessions coupled with ample time for discussion and networking between participants at all career stages in a relaxed and inclusive atmosphere.
